WHO WE ARE

The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and providing a safe haven for Muscovy ducks that are often turned away by wildlife rehabilitators and veterinarians due to their classification as a non-native species in Florida.

Founded by Gail Dixon, the sanctuary emerged from a pressing need to offer these vulnerable creatures a place to grow and thrive without the threat of euthanasia.

OUR STORY

When orphaned ducklings are found in Florida, their fate often hinges on their species. Muscovy ducks, labeled non-native, cannot be legally released back into the wild once captured. This policy leads many wildlife rehabbers and veterinarians to turn them away, leaving well-meaning individuals with few options.

Recognizing this gap, Gail Dixon began taking in these ducklings, understanding that they faced certain death without intervention. Over time, the need for a dedicated sanctuary became evident, leading to the establishment of The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida.
